Beds are dramatic. Couches are honest. The couch is the most underrated piece of sex furniture in the house because the back of the couch fixes about six angle problems that beds create.

Why The Couch Works

A bed is a flat surface in the middle of the room. The couch has a back, an armrest, cushions you can move, and a fixed height. Every one of those is an angle-fixing tool.

When you sit on the edge, the back of the couch becomes a brace. When you kneel on the cushions, the back becomes a place to grip. When you lay sideways, the armrest props up a knee. None of this exists on a bed.

Five Couch Setups

Partner sits low on the couch. Receiver sits on top, facing them, knees on the cushions. Receiver grips the top of the couch back with both hands. That grip turns wobbly cowgirl into stable rocking. Single biggest couch upgrade.

Sideways spoon

Both partners on their sides on the couch, receiver in front. The back of the couch is your back support. Armrest props up the top knee if needed. Lazy, slow, perfect for half-watching something on TV.

Edge of couch, kneeling

Receiver kneels on the floor facing the couch, chest and arms resting on the seat cushion. Partner kneels behind. The cushion supports the upper body weight. Easier on the knees than bed-edge because the floor is a flat surface.

Sit-and-straddle

Partner sits upright in the corner where the back meets the armrest (extra support). Receiver straddles facing them, feet flat on the cushions. The corner stabilizes the partner so the receiver does not push them backward.

Doggy on the cushions

Receiver on hands and knees facing the back of the couch, hands resting ON the back. Partner kneels behind. The back of the couch supports the upper body so the receiver is not propping themselves on shaky elbows.

Slide an extra throw pillow under whichever hip needs lifting. The couch has spare cushions built in. Use them. Most couples never think to.
